MHK earns 1st place for blood donations and 6th place overall in the 2010 Edmonton & Area Corporate Challenge

In just our second year of competing in the annual Edmonton and Area Corporate Challenge, MHK Insurance won 6th place out of 34 companies that registered in the Blue Division (50 – 99 employees).

Created in 1992, Corporate Challenge provides an activity for local businesses to foster employee interaction, teamwork, morale, pride, health and wellness. The demand proved overwhelming and now Edmonton’s Corporate Challenge has grown to include over 170 companies, over 18,000 athletes, and 1,900 volunteers in an Olympics‐style competition that is one of the largest amateur sporting events in Canada.

MHK employees really stepped up to the plate this year, with more than 70 per cent of our staff participating in 18 of the competitive and spirit-generating challenges, including the scavenger hunt (Gold medal), swimming (Silver medal), eight ball (Bronze medal), hula dancing (2nd place), mountain biking (4th place), dragon boating, golf, darts, horseshoes, basketball, and bowling, to name a few, as well as volunteering at events and donating blood as part of the annual Blood Donor Challenge. And we’re proud to say that we won this year’s Blood Donor Challenge for our division with the highest number of both first-time and total donors during the three-month timeframe.

“What tremendous spirit our people continue to demonstrate for Corporate Challenge,” says Michelle Rose, manager of communications and corporate relations for MHK Insurance. “It really doesn’t matter what we encourage our employees to get involved with around the community. They welcome every opportunity to raise the MHK flag, engage in wellness activities, help out with various causes, and just strengthen their bond with one another. It’s inspiring to be a part of this company.”
